Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 31, 2026
🌿 The short version: Freely syncs your calendar so you can manage your schedule, but we keep your event details private by default. Regular friends only see your free/busy time blocks. Event details are only shared if you explicitly upgrade someone to a "Close Friend". We never sell your data, and you can delete everything at any time.
1. Who we are
Freely is developed by Thibo Velghe, based in Lochristi, Belgium. If you have any questions about this privacy policy, you can reach us at [email protected].
2. What data we collect
We collect only what is necessary to make Freely work:
- Account information — your name and email address when you sign up
- Calendar events — event titles, dates, and times from your connected calendars. This allows you to view and manage your own schedule within Freely.
- Friend connections — who you choose to add as friends inside the app
- Messages — messages you send to friends through the app
- Events you add manually — any events you create directly inside Freely
3. What we do NOT collect
- The private contents of your events (like Google Meet links, attendee emails, or detailed paragraph descriptions). We only pull what is necessary to display your schedule to you.
- Your location
- Your contacts list (unless you explicitly grant permission to find friends)
- Any data from third parties for advertising purposes
4. How we use your data
Your data is used exclusively to provide the Freely service:
- Displaying your personal schedule to you on your private dashboard
- Showing your friends when you are free or busy (we automatically hide your actual event titles and details, unless you designate someone as a "Close Friend")
- Sending you notifications when friends are available
- Helping you plan hangouts, events, and trips with friends
We never sell your data to third parties. We never use your data for advertising.
5. Google Calendar integration
When you connect Google Calendar, Freely requests access to sync your events. We use this to display your schedule to you inside the app. When matching schedules with regular friends, our system only looks at the free/busy time blocks. Your Google Calendar event titles are strictly hidden and are only shared with users you have explicitly approved as "Close Friends".
Your Google access token is stored securely in our database. You can disconnect Google Calendar and wipe the synced events at any time from the Settings screen.
6. Privacy between friends
Freely uses a strict two-tier privacy system to keep you in control of your schedule:
- Regular friends (Default) — can only see whether you are free or busy. They cannot see your event titles, locations, or what you are doing.
- Close friends — can see the titles and details of your calendar events. You must explicitly grant this status to a friend, and you can revoke it at any time.
7. Data storage and security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, hosted on servers within the European Union. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest.
8. Your rights (GDPR)
As a user in the European Union, you have the following rights:
- Access — you can request a copy of all data we hold about you
- Correction — you can update your personal information in the app
- Deletion — you can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Settings screen
- Portability — you can request your data in a portable format
- Objection — you can object to how we process your data
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected].
9. Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all your personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days. Calendar sync data is automatically refreshed and old data replaced every time you sync.
10. Third party services
Freely uses the following third party services:
- Supabase — database and authentication (privacy policy at supabase.com/privacy)
- Google Calendar API — calendar integration (subject to Google's privacy policy)
- Expo — app infrastructure and push notifications
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or through the app. The latest version is always available at this page.
